The Story of Scottish Design

I am proud to have been included in The Story of Scottish Design, Edited by Philip Long and Joanna Norman and published by Thames & Hudson.

My work is featured in the Craftmanship, Character and Curiosity: Approaches to Contemporary Scottish Design written by Tara Wainwright. This section covers two double page spreads and profiles Contemporary Design in Scotland.

The piece highlights my work and also that of the talented furniture maker and designer, Angus Ross. As well as contrasting the design approaches, this section also features my Lakeland Clam Shell Dish Drainer and my Safe Cabinet which was exhibited at the Northern Lights exhibition at the V&A in London in 2016.
The book is a beautifully produced, full colour, hard bound, 224 page publication, in which I am delighted and humbled to have my work included, especially so early in my design career.
The Story of Scottish Design shines a light on the rich design history of Scotland, whilst also highlighting some of today’s practitioners.

The Story of Scottish Design – Book Overview

Published to coincide with the opening of the V&A Museum of Design, Dundee, this is the first major survey of Scottish design history from 1500 to present day. This inspiring and hugely varied volume explores, chronologically, over 60 themes, from early manuscripts and vernacular furniture to urban planning, textile design, the emergence of videogame development in Dundee, and Scotland’s role as a world leader in renewable technology development. Figures such as architect Robert Adam, engineer Thomas Telford, artist Eduardo Paolozzi, fashion designer Holly Fulton, designer Christopher Dresser, and designer and architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh are testament to Scotland’s role as a major player in design.

Scotland has consistently punched above its weight in the field of design. Throughout the modern age, Scotland’s highly original and pioneering designers have showcased the country’s significance on the international stage.
